The Lost Tales - Beginnings of a Second Darkness

There have been three major incarnations of the Clan so far. The first did the Rolemaster game where we got our name, and the third is the one running Tomb of Horrors. The second's main project was Pathfinder, specifically the first adventure in the Second Darkness campaign. (Un)fortunately, like most of my old GMing, it's largely lost to time. However, our friend Pencil Monkey recently uncovered a bit of that game, which is posted below. Again, (un)fortunately, only two sessions were found, and we were apparently chipmunks in the second, so here's the first.

Having taken time to refresh themselves after their confrontation with the strange gargoyle, the party continues into the Tomb, finding themselves before the mysterious Arch of Mists. Many have faced this fiendish puzzle, and many have perished in the attempt: will they have any better luck? And if they do, can they hope to overcome what follows?

The Lost Tales - Origins of the Name

Back when I was first starting out, I decided to play a Rolemaster game. Sadly, or not considering how questionable my GMing was at the time, most of those recordings have been lost. However, a friend and on-and-off Clan member recently rediscovered one of them, in particular the one that gave us our name. Posted here, for what little posterity we manage to generate. ;)

The party, confronted with a kidnapped child and a despondent father...proceed to sleep the night away and launch the search tomorrow. Before leaving, Theyr raids the kitchen, where he finds a large, well-aged ham, which he straps to his back. On the way, amidst the goblin footprints, they encounter strange, thin marks in the ground. Immediately clued in to the fact that there will be giant bugs in this adventure, they immediately decide to pack the spider poison. 


They encounter a strange mound, with a single entrance leading out. On entering, it turns out that they could not have been further from the truth in their spider decision. It's actually giant ants. 


After slaying two of the ants, Etzio the rogue and Theyr the werewolf (masquerading as Batman) scout out a room which contains two more ants. Etzio lands flat on his face, and Theyr decides that the best way to save his friend is to throw the ham at one of the ants. Despite the obvious comedic value of the idea, the ham does not cause a crit. 


After slaying the ants (but before retrieving the precious ham), Theyr falls into an obvious pit trap and we get our first indicator of how gamebreaking a Rolemaster werewolf is. Theyr is transformed into a monster! Faced with the choice of either waiting for it to go away or risk his turning on them...they throw the ham at him. Cheered by this sight, Theyr regains himself and they continue on. 


The party are ambushed by half a dozen goblins and orcs. After Eli reduces the toughest one in the room to a whimpering mass, another pair of ants emerge from below, and begin attacking everyone. An orc and a goblin flee, while the party mops up the enemies. 


Esamon, bemoaning the fact that all his crits suck, decides to chase after the fleeing orc. in hopes of killing it single-handedly..and proceeds to fall face-first into the pit, shattering his collarbone. Theyr, with the comedic timing born of being a werewolf, asks him to toss up the ham.

It is the last great unconquered legend in an era where the legends are dying and the world is moving on. Now, a group of dungeoneers, drawn by greed and the promise of adventure, set out to find the Tomb. Little do they realize just how terrible this legend can be...
